But he was being punished for what we did. He was crushed because of our guilt. He took the punishment we deserved, and this brought us peace. We were healed because of his pain. (Is. 53:5, ERV)
According to the way I see things, actions says everything. You can talk as much as you want, until you’re blue in the face. However, if your actions don’t line up with your words, you are truly wasting my time. I come from a place where a person’s words and actions mean a lot. They are important. If you tell me you have my back and you’re going to do something, I’m believe you. So I sit back and wait and watch. I listen and I observe. Two things will happen. You will either be a person of your word or your actions and words will contradict. Should they differ, I’m done. As wrong as it may be to take this approach, I will find it extremely hard to believe anything else that proceeds out of their mouth. Their words would be insignificant to me. Why? Because their actions told me everything I needed to know about them. The actions revealed that person’s true motives.
In today’s passage, Isaiah gives us reason behind Jesus’ crucifixion. We learn God’s true purpose (motive) for sending His one and only Son. Why did God send Jesus? For love. This entire chapter gives us a beautiful picture of what real love is. It describes to us what true love will do and how far it will go. It shows us how insanely in love our Father is with His creation. When looked at, Jesus features and appearances were unattractive to us (Is. 53:2). They were so unappealing that when we saw Him, in disgust we turned away (Is. 53:2-3). We rejected Him, mocked Him, and ridiculed Him. We shun Him away from our world, which was the world He created. But the ugliness we saw, the disdained we felt about Him, was our own sin. He bore our iniquities.
God so loved the world (John 3:16). His Words speak about His great love for us. Yet through His Son, Jesus Christ, His actions spoke even louder. Not only did He say, “I love you. You are My beloved.”, but God said, I’m going to prove to you just how much I love you.
Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us. Your love is indescribable and mind blowing. On the cross You showed us how much You love us. Now, Father, show us how to love like You. Teach us how to give You more than just lip service. We want our actions, motives, and lives to be motivated by your amazing love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
